2018 Construction season

Blog, Featured Stories, Fun Cool Facts, General Information, Uncategorized

The reports are in and the construction industry is expected to continue to grow throughout 2018. As both the residential and commercial sectors continue to expand, one thing is certain — employers will need to hire valuable workers. This fact is especially important in an industry that has seen a slight decline in the number of workers in the past few years, which is exactly why employers should use a staffing company.

How Can A Staffing Company Help?
The latest forecast from the Associated General Contractors of America shows that both the number of projects, as well as the level of hiring, are expected to increase in Ohio and Pennsylvania. In fact, 95 percent of companies in Ohio anticipate hiring within 2018. Of this 95 percent, 26 percent of companies plan to expand their workforce by more than 10 percent. In Pennsylvania the entire construction industry is expected to increase by three percent.

A strong 2018 construction season means that employers will need to hire a wide range of workers. Reports also indicate that there will be an increase in the number of power, sewer, retail, manufacturing, and warehouse commercial projects, while multifamily residential projects will continue to gain moment. Like attempting to put a square peg into a round hole, the wrong match can lead to project delays and lost funds. Fortunately, through an efficient, yet thorough process, staffing companies are well equipped to find the right employer and employee matches. A staffing agency can:

  • Save employers time and money by providing candidate screening and interviewing services.
  • Find seasonal, temporary, and long-term placements.
  • Reduce overhead costs for employers.
  • Efficiently connect employers with a pool of over 250,000 potential candidates.

Mentor Companies Donate $15K To Coats For Kids

Blog, General Information, Hiring Tips and Advise, Staffing Industry Facts

(MENTOR) – A surprise donation of a combined $15,000 from Mentor-based Just In Time Staffing and Buyers Products Company will make this holiday season much warmer for the several hundred children who attend North Elementary School in Madison.

Employees of both companies, along with Coats for Kids representatives, will be at the school on Friday, December 22 at 8 am for a pre-holiday break coat distribution event that will result in every student at the school receiving a brand new, warm winter coat.

“Our companies and employees wanted to do something to give back during this season of giving,” said Lisa Donato, vice president of human resources, Just In Time Staffing. “We discussed different organizations we might like to work with, and decided on Coats for Kids because they are a small, local organization that is doing good right here in northeast Ohio, where we felt our donation could make a significant impact.”

Coats for Kids worked with the companies to identify a school where the majority of children enrolled participate in the federal free or reduced lunch program. With Just in Time Staffing and Buyers Products based in Mentor, the hope was to give back to a school in Lake County, and North Elementary School in Madison was deemed the perfect fit.

“Every year, Coats for Kids identifies K-8 schools in public school districts in our service area with the highest numbers of children participating in the federal lunch program, then works with directly with those schools to identify children in need of a winter coat. We distribute about 10,000 new coats each year through our school program, and already distributed hundreds of coats to children in other Lake County schools prior to Thanksgiving,” said Debbie Martinko, Coats for Kids executive director. “This completely unexpected and very generous donation from Just In Time Staffing and Buyers Products will allow us to help even more children this year by sending every child from North Elementary home for the holidays with a brand-new winter coat!”

Manufacturing Trends

Working in the manufacturing sector is an important part of life in the US for a lot of people. This is an important industry, as well, because it creates both jobs and goods. Those are significant for different reasons, but highly valuable as they work to provide people with what they need and move the country forward. Current trends in manufacturing are focusing on automation, but that is not necessarily a bad thing. Plenty of people are still needed to operate machinery, work with robotics, and continue to manufacture goods in ways that are not easily automated or not yet ripe for automation for various reasons.

Many people who have worked in manufacturing in the past, do so now, or plan to in the future may be concerned about the trends that are moving away from people doing the work that machines are now completing. But realistically there is likely very little to fear. There are plenty of jobs available in the manufacturing sector for those who want to work. Many goods cannot easily be made by robots or machines, and they need people to create or assemble at least parts of them. In some other cases it is simply not cost effective for machines to do something that people can do for less money, overall.

With that in mind, staffing agencies still provide opportunities to place people needing work in jobs that are related to or based on manufacturing. The level of skill and the requirements for these jobs may start to change, though. More technical knowledge will be needed, and more training may also be necessary. That is something people needing work should consider and address, especially if they want to work within the changing manufacturing sector. Working with the right staffing agency can help with those changing needs and requirements.

Preparing for a job in manufacturing

Blog, Featured Stories, General Information, Hiring Tips and Advise, Industry trend, Staffing Industry Facts

Many people have the erroneous opinion that manufacturing jobs have recently gone the way of the dinosaurs either through outsourcing to foreign lands or automation. Contrary to popular belief, the high-tech manufacturing industry is alive and well, and qualified workers are in high demand. Getting a manufacturing job isn’t as simple as it has been in the past, however, when it was often possible to begin a manufacturing career straight from high school with no special training. Technology has become increasingly sophisticated to the extent that those desiring a career in manufacturing need to prepare themselves with education in order to realize their goals. Fortunately, educational options exist for those who desire a career in the manufacturing field.

Step One

The first step in preparing for a job in manufacturing is to identify which aspect of the industry holds the most appeal for the individual in question. High schools and colleges provide aptitude tests for those seeking career guidance, and those who aren’t affiliated with an educational institution may nonetheless be able to take an aptitude test at a local community college. After a specific aspect of manufacturing has been decided upon, the person then needs to begin to develop an educational plan designed to make that dream into reality. This process ideally begins in the career counseling office of an institution of higher education that offers programs for those wanting to make manufacturing into a lifelong career.

Step Two

The second step is making a personal and financial commitment to a specific educational plan and resolving to stick with the program even when times become challenging. Reading industry publications keeps students up-to-date on the latest industry trends. By the time students graduate, they should be ready for step three of the journey to success — finding and excelling in that first manufacturing job.

What skills are employers looking for?

Blog, General Information, Hiring Tips and Advise, Industry trend, Resources, Staffing Industry Facts

According to the U.S. Department of Labor in January 2016, the number of unemployed persons in the United States was approximately 7.8 million, with an unemployment rate of 4.9%.  Job seekers are facing a job market where competition for an open position is higher than ever. With such stiff competition, employees must present themselves well and be certain to highlight their talent in the skills that employers value most.

The Skills Employers Are Seeking in Prospective Employees

  • The ability to work well on a team with diverse members
  • The capacity to make firm decisions quickly
  • The skill of creative problem solving
  • The ability to communicate effectively and efficiently both inside the organization and with external stakeholders
  • The ability to plan and prioritize work without constant supervision

>Showing Employers You Have Those Skills

Interviews are usually fairly brief.  Chances are you will not have longer than an hour to explain or demonstrate these skills. That’s why you need to have communicated how strong you are in these areas before you even interview via your cover letter and resumé. Whenever possible, give specific written examples demonstrating these skills. Introducing these sought after skills in writing and then elaborating on them during your interview will show employers that you have what they want!
